The phrase Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is often used interchangeably with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. However, Rickson Gracie, the most revered of a family lineage has always had a quest to reintroduce the original art form prioritising self-defence and real-world survival over the more recent sporting derivatives.

M1 J14 Brazilian Jiujitsu Academy based in Milton Keynes has shown that it is possible to train the original Gracie Jiu-Jitsu for self-defence and MMA, combine that with striking and clinch, and still enjoy success in the IBJJF or No Gi styles of submission wrestling.

Honoured to have participated in Mestre Rickson Gracie Seminars and Workshops.

Rickson Gracie

Rickson is a 9th dan black belt of the Gracie family. His techniques are still widely recognised as the best in the world. His great talent and dedication to the sport has resulted a virtually unpassable record in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Free-Style wrestling, Sambo and Vale Tudo.

Rickson Gracie emphasizes a deeper understanding of the principles of Jiu-Jitsu. His insight into matters such as base, timing, connection, weight distribution and leverage are unparalleled. His application of these principles is not always apparent to the naked eye and can only be appreciated by experiencing or feeling it yourself. Rickson is, therefore, best known for his concept of ‘Invisible Jiu-Jitsu’.
